Overview
NRSS is a protocol for syndicating numerical data over the web.
It is an extension of the Really Simple Syndication (RSS) Version 2.0 specifications with data model concepts based on IEEE 1451.1.
Examples of numeric content include that can be syndicated via NRSS include the temperature of a pond, the price of Agilent Technologies stock, or the spin-up time of a disk drive.
NRSS extends RSS 2.0 by introducing new extensions within the field of a regular RSS 2.0 newsfeed.
These extensions describe the data from the numeric data source
in an easy-to-parse and explicit format.
The description includes, obviously, the numerical data.
It also includes the metadata of the numerical data, such as its dimension,
units, or uncertainty, and also describes how the actual data set is represented.
Lastly, in the way that a RSS feed provides a link to the actual news story, a NRSS feed provides a link to the actual numeric data source.
An introduction to NRSS can be found
here.
